Overview
Mount Meru; standing tall at 4566m above the seal level, is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and the second highest mountain peak in Tanzania. Mt. Meru trek does not only offer a wonderful trekking experience but also an ideational pre-climb exercise for Mt. Kilimanjaro for its highest altitude, acclimatization and hiking distances. This trek to the peak of Mount Meru can be completed especially in about 3 – 4 days. Rising above the clouds at the heart of the Arusha National Park, Mount Meru offers spectacular views of the eye catching savannah plains and the amazing views of the great Kilimanjaro Mountain Peak. Mount Meru was carved to its peculiar divergent shape for about a thousands of years past whilst the volcanic thunderclap fragmented the gigantic heap of the eastward belly of the mountain. The arable slopes of the Kilimanjaro Mountain are a home to a wide range of wildlife varieties amongst the several dimensions of wildlife existence. Â
Hiking up and down the mountain involves a considerable amount of steep slopes in some parts, that may require some little strenuous efforts to conquer but the pride of having conquered it is the greatest feeling ever experienced.Â

Tour Plan
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Today you will be introduced to your guide who will be around to answer any questions you may have. Briefing and the Mountain trek equipment check can either be done today or tomorrow during your free day if available according to your travelling dates.Â
We will leave the hotel in Moshi at around 8:00am hrs after having your morning breakfast. Our adventure will begin with a drive to the Arusha National Park for a drive of about one hour reaching to the Mount Meru entrance gates. The beautiful green vegetation in the park is outrageously variable. Â
Our starting camp will be at the Miriakamba hut where you will overnight. For the whole trek you will be accompanied by an armed ranger and our professional mountain guide to guide you throughout the trek. On the way up you will encounter a number of wildlife including zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, gazelles, warthogs and buffalo. Your trekking guide will be clarifying the different wildlife and bird species that you will catch a sight of. The wildlife that you will see including leopards and elephants tends to be well reserved in superlative degrees to the ones in the Serengeti. All meals includedÂ
Our trek will begin early in the morning after having taken your well prepared breakfast, heading upward along the steep path towards the Saddle Hut. The trek to summit of the little Meru will be undertaken starting at the middle of the night then return to the Saddle hut and have dinner after the accomplishment. We recommend that you take an early rest preparing to wake up at midnight for the summit trek of Mount Meru. All meals includedÂ
Our final hike to the peak of Mount Meru around 2:00 am at midnight. We advise that you collect your headlamp to guide you in the dark especially in the early hours of the trek. Conquering the summit is the most challenging part of the trek for its steep trails and altitude. We have allocated some time for photos and a moment to comprehend what you have achieved. The fantastic views of the mountains plains seen near and far as you head towards the Momela Gate is one of the most perfect spots for you to take a couple of memorable pictures. Â
We will take a stop at the Saddle hut for lunch and a little relaxation before spending our final descent to the Momela gate across the cloudy forest of Mount Meru. This trail tends to be a little slippery and will require your attention. The Ice Peak Tours vehicle will be waiting to transport you from the Momela gate back to the hotel. Â
On our way back if time allows, we will pass through local shops to grab some souvenirs and items of your choice should you desire to bring a gift back home.
Our driver will be waiting to transfer you to the Kilimanjaro Airport to catch your flight. If the choice for the Safaris or Zanzibar beach holiday will be in your bucket list – in such a desirable adventure, we’ll be happy to be at your service.
