Tour Plan
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Upon your arrival at the hotel you will be introduced to your guide who will give you a brief overview, answer some of your questions and conduct equipment check.Â
You will start the hiking from Morum 3395m starting point) to Shira 1 camp (3500m / 11483ft). The walk on this first day is short and the trail is gradually flat with the stunning views of beautiful sceneries worth of taking pictures for the first day trekking experience memories. You will sign in at Shira 1 camp which on the other hand it is day two for the people who take Lemosho Route. Day to day Briefing after Dinner.Â
You will hike on the flat trails of the Shira plateaus from Shira 1 camp to Shira 2 Camp via Shira Cathedral. You will sign in at the camp following park regulations. Upon arrival at the camp you will take a little relaxation and have a hot lunch and dinner at the camp. Day to day Briefing after Dinner. Â
You will have Short Walk from Shira 2 camp to Moir hut located at (4200m / 13779.6ft) above sea level. Moir hut is a special camp site which is not mostly visited. But the Ice Peak Adventures discovered that it is the best route for both the experienced and the unexperienced trekkers with perfect acclimatization elevations. There will be no sign in at Moir hut rather than grabbing a camping site and pitch tents for overnight. Day to day Briefing after Dinner. Â
After the morning breakfast, you will take a hike across the Alpine desert from Moir hut (4200m / 13779.6ft) to Lava Tower Camp (4600m / 1591.9ft). The walking will be from Western Side of the Mountain to Eastern that day will meet with the people from Lemosho and Machame Route where they meet on the way to Barranco Camp across the Lava Tower camp. You will overnight at Lava Tower Camp staring at the sparkling constellation of stars by night, should the sky be clear. No sign in registry at the Lava Tower. Day to day Briefing after Dinner. Â
From the Lava Tower Camp (4600m / 15092ft), you will take a hike down to Barranco Camp (3,972m / 13,032ft). This will be a short day trek and genuinely downhill. You will sign in at the Barranco camp where you will meet people from other routes such as Lemosho Route, Machame Route and Umbwe Route. You will have hot lunch / dinner at the camp. Day to day Briefing after Dinner. Â
On this day the Barranco Wall stands before you to wrestle. Some stages will require you to use your hands for a better grip, but there is no actual climbing that is necessary. Your guide will be leading you in every step of the way to stretch a helping hand. The Londorossi route with its numerous ascents and descents allow you a chance for further acclimatization, before reaching the mountain ridge. Walking along the ridge you can take a glimpse of the beautiful landscape with its stunning contrasts of desert and vegetation views, before you finally reach the popular Karanga Camp (in Swahili Karanga means Groundnuts). Your trek will take about 3 to 4 hours, offering more than just enough time to rest and play a game or read a book.Â
After a good night’s rest and breakfast, we set off on our walk to Barafu camp at 4640m. The climb will take us across desolate scree slopes with no vegetation around us at all. It’s a tough steep walk made more difficult by the altitude. On arriving at camp we eat and spend the afternoon resting as we prepare for a long night and day ahead. It is important to keep hydrated and warm. We have an early dinner and then try to get some sleep as we will be getting up at between 11pm and 12pm to start the climb to the summit.Â
We start off at around midnight, and walk steeply upwards to the summit glaciers. We will be climbing scree for 4 to 5 hours but gain incredible height over a short distance. The views are spectacular. We should be on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739m) as the first rays of the sun hit us. Spectacular ice cliffs within the crater surround us and the views to jagged Mawenzi peak and beyond are breath-taking. For about 1 hour walking we will finally reach to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). We begin our descent by returning to Stella Point and then descending on scree slope and track back to Barafu Camp for breakfast, before finally heading down to Millennium Camp for a long well-earned rest.Â
A gentle trek takes us down through the rain forest to Mweka Gate, where we complete park formalities and receive certificates, which you can hang up with pride! We are then met by our vehicles and return to the hotel in Moshi, where you can treat yourself to a welcome shower (and a cold beer or two!) before our big celebration.Â
