Tour Plan
Morning Departure (6:00 AM)
Start your day with an early pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Your guide will drive you to the Marangu Gate, the starting point for the hike, located at 1,870 meters (6,135 feet) above sea level.
Arrival and Registration (8:00 AM)
At the Marangu Gate, complete the necessary registration before beginning your hike. Your guide will provide a briefing and ensure you’re ready for the adventure ahead.
Hike to Mandara Hut (8:30 AM – 12:30 PM)
Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, characterized by towering trees, ferns, and moss-covered branches. This 8-kilometer (5-mile) hike to Mandara Hut takes approximately 3-4 hours, with opportunities to spot colobus monkeys, colorful birds, and other wildlife. Your guide will share fascinating information about the environment and Kilimanjaro’s ecosystem.
Lunch at Mandara Hut (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM)
Upon reaching Mandara Hut (2,700 meters / 8,858 feet), enjoy your packed picnic lunch surrounded by incredible views. If time and energy allow, take a short walk to Maundi Crater for panoramic vistas of northern Tanzania and Kenya.
Descend to Marangu Gate (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM)
After lunch and a rest, begin your descent back to the Marangu Gate. This downhill trek offers another chance to soak in the beauty of the rainforest and its wildlife.
Evening Return (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
Upon reaching the Marangu Gate, receive your day hike certificate and board the vehicle for your return trip to Moshi or Arusha. You’ll arrive in the evening, filled with memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
